Colorbond is steel with a baked-on colour finish in a wide range, so it suits homes where the gutter is on show. Zincalume is the same steel with a plain metallic finish, usually cheaper, and fine on a shed or the back of the house. Both last well in Perth if leaves and sand are cleared. Near the coast, ask about the higher corrosion grade.

For an average single-storey Perth home, taking the old gutters down and fitting the new ones usually takes about a day. Not always. If the fascia is sound, the new brackets fix to it as before. But a gutter that has leaked for years often leaves rotted timber or rusted steel fascia behind it, and new guttering will not hold on that. We check the fascia when we measure up and again once the old gutter is off, and quote any fascia work as its own line.

Yes, where the rest of the run is sound. One rusted or sagging length can be cut out and a new section joined to the guttering either side, usually the sensible option on a younger roof. Where several runs are failing, a full replacement often costs little more and gives you one profile and colour all the way round.

Yes. Roof valleys are the metal channels where two roof slopes meet, and once rust gets through them water runs into the ceiling instead of the gutter. Replacing a valley means lifting the surrounding tiles, fitting new valley iron and relaying the tiles, so it is roof plumbing work and its own line on the quote. We cannot price a valley without looking at it.

Look for rust spots or pinholes along a whole run rather than at one joint, a gutter base that flexes or has gone thin, several runs sagging and holding water, or brackets pulling away from the fascia in more than one place. Any of those means patching becomes a yearly job. One leaking joint or one sagging bracket is a repair, and we will tell you which it is.

Two warranties usually apply. The steel maker's product warranty covers the Colorbond or zincalume against faults such as corrosion and paint failure, with terms that depend on the product and how close your home is to the coast. A workmanship warranty covers the fitting. Ask for both in writing with your quote and keep them with your receipt.
